Motion Detection

Settings Video source:

Name: Use the popup box to select the capture device used for this configuration. SupervisionCam can use you capture hardware in two ways: with Video for Windows or WDM drivers (DirectShow interface). If your device(s) is (are) listed on both positions you should try both and find out the one that fits your needs best.
You can select "Image File" if you want to use a bitmap as source. If you select Image File an additional edit box "Image Source" will appear. Please enter the full path and name of the image file. Supported image types are *.bmp and *.jpg. Please use an URL string to use an image from the internet as source.
For instance: "HTTP://www.server.com/images/webcam.jpg">
Please make sure that the source is really an image file and not a *.html document. See Use an Image as source for additional remarks.
The screenshot selection allows the same settings only with the (primary) screen image as source. To reduce the file size you can reduce the image by one of the buttons below.

Video Format: (Optional) Opens a dialog to specify the settings for the saved images. Please note: The dialog is created by your capture device driver. Therefore it is different for each device. The driver also saves the format by itself. That means, if you change the format for this device with another configuration or application, it will be changed for this configuration file too.
Please note: This settings are important for the motion detection quality.

Video Source: (Optional) Opens the Video Source dialog for your capture device. The limitations are the same as the Video Format options.

Video Display: (Optional) Opens the Video Display dialog for your capture device. The limitations are the same as the Video Format options.

Rotation / Mirror: SupervisionCam can modify the source image. This feature allows to mount the camera on the way you prefer.

Fixed Trigger: Select this box if you do not want to use the dynamic trigger. Please insert a value for the motion detection when you want to start saving images. Please note: The sensitivity of your camera to motion will change with each different light environment. Therefore the dynamic trigger is in many cases the better choice.
A smaller value means more sensitivity. You can check your settings with the colored bar over the image: green - no images will be saved, red - images will be saved, yellow - no images will be saved, but it is very near to the limit. If the beam is yellow, you have a good configuration.

Dynamic Trigger: If you select the dynamic trigger the program computes the threshold dependent on the last saved image. It adds the value in percent to the average of the changes from the last image and compares this value with the current changes. Please note that a continuous motion in front of the camera will increase the threshold more and more and SupervisionCam will stop capturing although the motion goes on. If the motion stops for a short time the threshold will be decreased immediately so that a new motion will be saved.
A smaller value means more sensitivity. You can check your settings with the colored bar over the image: green - no images will be saved, red - images will be saved, yellow - no images will be saved, but it is very near to the limit. If the beam is yellow, you have a good configuration.

Compare frames each xxx s: Enter the time between two captured images. The differences in these images are used to calculate the threshold. Please note a small time difference e.g. 0.1 seconds will keep your computer busy and some images may be lost. A good value is 0.5 - 1 s.

Start event only if x consecutive motions were detected: To eliminate inadvertently saved images you can enter a number higher than 1. The recommended value is 3. If you enter 1, each image with a motion will be saved.

For instance the value is 3 and the supervision is active. If you switch off the light in the room but nobody is in front of your camera, the program will detect 1 or 2 images with changes and will ignore it. But if somebody crosses the camera view and this takes the time of 4 compared images, SupervisionCam will store all these 4 images.

Start surveillance with a delay of: Enter a value to start the surveillance not immediately after pressing the start button. This is helpful if you need time to leave the room. Enter a string like 30 s (seconds) or 2 min (minutes)

View Mode: Select one of the given modes by clicking on the arrows to view an image preview in the selected mode. It can help you to find ranges that should be masked.

Use Mask: Enable this checkbox if you want to use a mask. With the mask you can remove some parts of the view from the active motion detection area.

Mask: Opens the Mask Dialog. See The Mask Dialog
